Mexican citizen faces 5 months in federal prison after being deported eleven times

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — A Mexican man has been sentenced to five months in federal prison after he illegally returned to the United States.
Gabriel Hernandez-Martinez, 39, a citizen of Mexico was sentenced in the United States District Court after entering a guilty plea on June 21st, of one count of illegal reentry into the country.
At the guilty plea, Hernandez-Martinez admitted he had previously been deported from the U.S. in October 2009, December 2009, March 2010, and November 2010. He also admitted to illegally reentering the U.S. without the permission of the government.
Hernandez-Martinez, along with others in the county illegally, was found by immigration agents in May 2019 after a traffic stop in Bremer County, Iowa.
According to a press release, Herandez-Martinez was also deported to Mexico one time in November 1998, three times in November 1999, two times on the same day in June 2005, and in October 2009.
He is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to federal prison.
