WICHITA, Kan. - A previously deported Mexican national, who unlawfully re-entered the United States and illegally possessed drugs and firearms, was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison following his guilty plea. The sentenced resulted from an investigation conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Wichita Police Department.

He pleaded guilty to the following charges: illegally re-entering the United States after being previously deported, possessing with intent to distribute pure methamphetamine, and unlawfully possessing a firearm as an illegal alien.

In his plea, Maldonado-Ortega admitted that investigators served a search warrant July 2 at his Wichita residence in the 2700 block of S. Mosley.
