Mexican lawmakers angered at U.S. border incident

    10:13 p.m. February 22, 2007

MEXICO CITY – Mexico's Congress complained Thursday that U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and government workers building a controversial border fence stepped into Mexican territory.

Lawmakers said that earlier this week while on a visit to Arizona, Chertoff and workers briefly crossed the 2,000-mile border into Mexico without permission.

“The lower house condemns the violation of Mexican territory by personnel building the metal barrier between the cities of Douglas, Arizona and Agua Prieta, Sonora, who were lead by U.S. Secretary for Homeland Security Michael Chertoff,” lower house speaker Jorge Zermeno told Congressmen.
Mexico sees the barrier, being built along parts of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, as offensive and says it will be ineffective and cause more deaths along the border.

U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza said in a statement that Chertoff was not involved in the alleged incident and that recent photos taken of him near the border were from another part of Arizona.

“Secretary Chertoff was not present in Agua Prieta, Sonora and all of his activities on Tuesday occurred on the U.S. side of the border,” Garza said.

Garza said the U.S. and Mexican governments were investigating whether the workers had actually crossed the border.

At highway border crossings, U.S. citizens are normally able enter Mexico by showing official identification like a drivers license or passport.

Immigration is seen as a threat to U.S. employment by many Americans. Supporters of the fence say it is also needed to keep out drug smugglers and terrorists.

Mexico's foreign ministry was unavailable for comment.

For some reason, they don't have a problem with millions of their citizens stepping on our soil without permission!!

Apparently they don't mind it when their armed military units cross over onto our soil. I could give a flying rat's patootie what these lame-ass Mexican politicians think of us building a fence to keep their lowlife criminals and thugs off of our sovereign soil.

If they cared so much about the deaths of their citizens when illegally crossing the desert, maybe they should do something to better their own country so they wouldn't have to come here in the first place. But then again, they wouldn't get the billions of U.S. dollars they need to prop up their economy and protect their incompetent government from open revolt, not to mention the fattening of the wallets of their rich elite and corrupted politicians.

This has nothing to do with the lives of their people, if they really cared, they would create things like social service programs, real education and healthcare systems. Or maybe they might think about providing such luxuriant extravagances such as electricity, running water and sewer systems.

As long as our lame government allows their people to come here illegally and send home masses of money as well as mooch off our taxpayer funded social services they will never fix their own country. Why should they? They get rid of their poor and criminal elements and we foot the bill to support them, all the while they reap the billions of dollars their beloved amigos send back home.

There is no term sufficient enough to express what an ABSOLUTELY IDIOTIC statement this first-class, arrogant moron has made. It takes a total lack of sense of embarrassment and brains to utter something like this when millions of them are invading our country. Their govt. leaders are constantly meddling in our business and as far as I'm concerned they can go to hell!

Chertoff and workers briefly crossed the 2,000-mile border into Mexico without permission.

actually, this is an interesting idea. but unfortunately people would abuse it and just send obscenities (though a big part of me feels impelled to do like wise) it would not serve our cause. let's face it we know mexico thinks, because our leaders are idiots, we are too.

Send email to Tony Garza: ccs@usembassy.net.mx

    This is what I sent:

In a statement, the US Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza said: "The US is sensitive to Mexican concerns... [and] has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil".

The Mexican government said: Legislators say workers and equipment building a section of the barrier have gone 10 metres (yards) into Mexico.

What gall. The Mexican government is upset? IS a sovereign Nation?

What about the USA? Their people are making a mockery of our immigration laws, our borders and dictating to OUR government what should and should not be done!

Are we not a sovereign Nation too?

Millions of Mexicans are crossing our borders, in our Country illegally and Mexico has the nerve to complain about equipment or men building the fence, standing on the Mexico side of the border?

Why is the USA using kid gloves when it comes to Mexico? Do they have "something" on someone here?

Americans are fed up with taking care of their people, when Mexico's own rich have said they will move out of Mexico, if their taxes are raised to care for their own people!

If they don't want to take care of them, why is our government forcing us to care for them?

Free health care, free education, and then we have to pay for their incarceration!

I would hope you will convey the message to Bush, that American's are furious with his pandering to the Mexicans, and turning his back on American citizens and American workers!

We have sent Millions in aid to Mexico, and they still haven't done anything to help their people...so throwing money at them isn't the answer, and allowing them to run all over our Country isn't the answer either, as we have had more Americans killed by illegals, since 2000, than those Americans killed on 9/11 and Iraq and Afghanistan, combined!

Our government must insist, that the Mexican government stop whining and start helping their own, they are rich in resources!

    And here's another story"http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6390291.stm

Many Mexicans see the border barrier as offensive
Mexico's parliament has condemned what it says is a border violation by US workers building a controversial barrier between the two countries. Legislators say workers and equipment building a section of the barrier have gone 10 metres (yards) into Mexico.

The alleged border violation comes ahead of a high-level meeting in the Canadian capital Ottawa.

US, Mexican and Canadian foreign ministers are to discuss border security and trade issues.

Mexican legislators said they had photographs and video, taken on Monday, of the workers and heavy-duty construction equipment that showed them about 10 metres inside Mexico near the border city of Agua Prieta and the town of Douglas, Arizona.

The Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa said she had complained to the US authorities and that the men and equipment had been withdrawn.

    Continental trade concerns

In a statement, the US Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza said: "The US is sensitive to Mexican concerns... [and] has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil".
He said US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff had not been in the area of the alleged incursion and recent photographs of him welding a section of the fence had been taken in a different part of Arizona on the US side of the border.

The US says it is building 700 miles (1,125km) of fencing along its border with Mexico to stop illegal immigration.

Many Mexicans see the fence as offensive and say it will be ineffective and potentially cause more deaths in border crossings.

An estimated 1.2 million illegal immigrants were arrested in 2005 trying to cross into the US via the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

About 11 million Mexicans are thought to live in the US, more than six million of them illegally.

Later on Friday, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is meeting her Canadian and Mexican counterparts - Peter Mackay and Patricia Espinosa - in Ottawa.

They are to discuss concerns that security measures put in place after the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US may hamper trade between the three countries.

The officials will also look at co-ordinating responses to emergencies such as a pandemic outbreak of avian flu.

    Mexico slams U.S. border incursions
    Sun, 25 Feb 2007 03:17:59
Mexico's parliament has condemned the recent incursions by the U.S. workers erecting the disputed border fence in the Mexican frontier.

The lawmakers said they have photos showing U.S. workers and construction equipment intruding in to the Mexican soil for about ten meters near the border city of Agua Prieta in the northern Mexico.

Meanwhile, Mexican foreign minister Patricia Espinosa said she has complained to U.S. and they have retreated from the area.

The dispute comes ahead of a planned meeting in Ottawa between three North American countries, U.S., Mexico and Canada, to address their border security issues.

United States says it is erecting a 700 mile fence across the Mexican border to hinder any illegal immigration but many Mexicans regard it as an insult which will fail to be effective at all.

About 11 million Mexicans are thought to live in the U.S., more than six million of them illegally.

What Tony Garza Should Have Said about the Border Crossing
    [Allan Wall] @ 10:01 am [
Millions of Mexicans cross illegally into the U.S., and the Mexican government defends them and demands rights for them .

But when U.S. construction workers, building a border fence, accidentally cross 10 yards into Mexico, the Mexican government gets offended .

Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa lodged a complaint and the workers and equipment were returned forthwith to the American side of the border.

There’s nothing at all suprising about this from the Mexican point of view. What should bother Americans is the response of U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza, Bush crony and husband of the richest woman in Mexico, billionaire beer baroness Maria Asuncion.

    Garza assured Mexico that

“The US is sensitive to Mexican concerns… [and] has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil”.

What Garza should have said is something like this :

“The US is willing to apologize for crossing 10 yards into Mexico, as soon as Mexico stops encouraging illegal immigration, meddling in U.S. immigration policy and claiming legal jurisdiction over U.S. citizens of Mexican descent.”

But, that’s impossible to imagine coming from the mouth of a Bush administration official, isn’t it?
