Officers have detained a Mexican man accused of illegally crossing the border for the sixth time.

Officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained 41-year-old Juan Florentino Castillo-Campos on Aug. 24, according to the federal criminal complaint against him.

"Record checks revealed the defendant was formally removed from the United States to Mexico for the Fifth (5th) time on June 1, 2009, via the Laredo, Texas Port of Entry," according to the criminal complaint.

"The defendant claims to have illegally re-entered the United States on or about November 1, 2009 by wading the Rio Grande River at or near Los Ebanos, Texas," according to the criminal complaint.

When officers booked him at the Hidalgo County jail on Aug. 10 on a failure to identify charge, Castillo-Campos told them he lived in Mission, according to Sheriff's Office records.

He's now charged with illegal re-entry.

Court records don't list an attorney for Castillo-Campos, who remains in federal custody.
