SAN YSIDRO, Calif. - Officers discovered 637 pounds in a commercial bus stopped at the San Ysidro Port of Entry over the weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Monday.

A 56-year old Mexican man driving a 1999 commercial bus was waited in line to enter the United States around noon Sunday when a CBP detector dog alerted officers to the bus, CBP spokeswoman Angelica De Cima said.

The driver was ordered to the secondary inspection area for a more in-depth inspection where 140 packages of marijuana were found in the fuel tank of the bus, according to De Cima.

CBP officers seized the bus and $955,000 worth of marijuana, then arrested the driver, she said.

“This is a good example of the hard work performed daily by CBP officers at ports of entry,” said Assistant Port Director Joseph Misenhelter. “Our CBP officers make a difference every day in their efforts to protect the homeland."
