Mexican national pleads guilty to federal gun charge

NEW ORLEANS - Alejandro Solorzano, 35, a citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty in federal court on Monday before U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic violence. The charges resulted from an investigation conducted by officers with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

According to court documents, Solorzano knowingly possessed a 12-gauge shotgun, after having been convicted of domestic violence in Michigan in 2004.

Solorzano faces a maximum statutory penalty of ten years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for March 23, 2011.

The investigation was conducted by ICE's Fugitive Operations Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir and Assistant U. S. Attorney Jon Maestri.
