Mexican pleads guilty in illegal immigrant case

A 34-year-old Mexican citizen pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of unlawfully transporting illegal immigrants.

Juan Manuel Sandoval-Perez admitted he had been driving 16 illegal immigrants on May 31 when the Kansas Highway Patrol stopped his 1998 Ford Club Van just north of Wichita. His passengers were from Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.

Sandoval-Perez is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 8. He could get 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Five other people have pleaded guilty in the case and are scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 6 with the exception of one.

    • Pedro Artemo Martinez-Garcia, 31, of Mexico, the second driver, one count of unlawfully transporting illegal immigrants.

    • Rony Antonio Ramos-Ruano, 27, of El Salvador, one count of unlawfully re-entering the United States after being deported.

    • Jocsan Enoc Medina-Ramos, 19, of Honduras, one count of escaping from federal custody.

    • Irving Samuel Lopez-Cigarroa, 18, one count of escape from federal custody.

    • Marco Guadiana-Medina, 31, of Mexico, one count of unlawfully re-entering the United States after being deported. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 30.

They just keep coming BACK! They need to jail all these people for at least 2-3 months or more and they will think twice about coming back. As it is, they have nothing to lose for repeated attempts. As the Arizona sheriff said, "Lock 'em up and it will stop illegal immigration."!
