Mexican police arrest 43 more illegal C. American migrants



Mexican police arrested 43 more undocumented migrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala on Monday, bringing to 121 the number of arrests from these countries in less than 48 hours.

The Preventative Federal Police (PFP) made the arrests in the southeastern Mexican state of Chiapas, in the central state of San Luis Potosi and at Mexico City's international airport.

The largest group was arrested in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, after officers conducted a random inspection of a coach on which there were 36 illegal migrants from Honduras.

The Public Security Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the PFP had arrested 78 illegal immigrants from Central America and three immigrant smugglers.

The arrested illegal immigrants will be taken to the National Immigration Service's detention center.

Central Americans crossing illegally into Mexico in a bid to enter the United States are mostly from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

Some 1,800 illegal immigrants, most of them from Central America, have been arrested in the the northern Mexican state of Coahuila since the beginning of this year.
