Gunbattle Breaks Out on Matamoros Streets

MATAMOROS, MEXICO - A battle for territory in Matamoros sparked a violent shootout between rival drug gangs.

The gunbattle broke out early Thursday morning on the streets of Matamoros. Sources close to CHANNEL 5 NEWS say the Zetas and Gulf Cartel clashed in a fight to control the city. Grenade explosions and gunfire lasted about two hours.

The body count is expected to be high, but Mexican officials have not confirmed the number of deaths.
