Mexican national sentenced in Wisconsin to 3 years in federal prison for illegally re-entering US

MADISON, Wis. — A convicted criminal from Mexico, who was previously deported multiple times, was sentenced Thursday to three years in federal prison for illegally re-entering the United States.

This sentence was announced by John W. Vaudreuil, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin.

This sentence resulted from an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

Juan Manuel Larios-Buentello, 50, a Mexican national encountered in New Richmond, Wisconsin, was sentenced Feb. 12 by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 36 months in federal prison for illegally re-entering the United States after having been deported. Larios-Buentello pleaded guilty to this charge Nov. 25.

Larios-Buentello was previously deported to Mexico multiple times, with his last removal occurring June 26, 2012. After his most recent deportation, he again illegally re-entered the United States. On Oct. 26, 2013, he was arrested in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, for misdemeanor hit-and-run. The defendant’s 36-month sentence was based in large part on his prior criminal history in the United States, which includes two prior convictions for illegally re-entering the United States after being deported.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Munish Sharda, Western District of Wisconsin, prosecuted this case.
