Vehicle with California plates was preparing to cross at Otay Mesa

TIJUANA — A tractor-trailer preparing to cross to the United States on Sunday through the the Otay Mesa port of entry was seized in Tijuana by Mexican soldiers who reportedly discovered more than two tons of marijuana inside.

The seized Kenworth tractor-trailer with California plates was on display Monday at Tijuana’s Cuartel Morelos, along with 345 packages of marijuana and several crates of chiles and green tomatoes.

According to a statement from Baja California’s Second Military Zone, an anonymous tip led soldiers to inspect the trailer, where they found the marijuana hidden inside the produce shipment.

The statement said the driver was arrested, but did not identify him.

California Department of Motor Vehicle records show the truck is registered to Grenas Trucking LLC of San Diego. U.S. Department of Transportation records show the company’s physical address is in Otay Mesa on Avenida Costa Este.
