Man charged with kidnapping two immigrants

McALLEN — Mexican natiAonal was formally charged Wednesday with kidnapping after he allegedly held two immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally against their will, prosecutors say.

Homeland Security Investigations agents along with McAllen police arrested Martin Margarito-Casmiro, who is accused of keeping the two people captive at a McAllen home in late January, according to a news release.

Authorities said the 28-year-old man forced the victims to call family members in order to arrange payments for their release.
The Camargo, Mexico, native was originally charged in February on a firearms charge — a federal grand jury additionally added conspiracy and kidnapping charges on Wednesday, prosecutors say.

If convicted of the charges, Margarito could face life in prison.
