Mexican TV executive granted bond in Houston
Associated Press
HOUSTON - A television executive wanted for tax fraud in Mexico has been granted $10,000 bond by U.S. immigration officials, a spokesman said Tuesday.
Javier Moreno Valle, president of the independent television station CNI Canal 40, was held because he had expired immigration documents and a request from Mexico for his detention pending extradition.
Moreno was granted $10,000 bond on Monday, said Greg Gagne, spokesman for the executive office of immigration review, a U.S. Justice Department divison. Gagne had no details on whether Moreno had been released.
The spokeswoman for the Houston office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not return phone calls from The Associated Press.
Mexico has issued an arrest warrant for Moreno for allegedly failing to pay 3.2 million pesos in taxes connected to the television station in 2000.
Channel 40 has been in a long-running feud with Mexico's second-largest television broadcaster. TV Azteca has been trying for several years to take control of the station, which targets the high-income population living in and around Mexico City.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn
