Mexico against trade embargo of Cuba

MOSCOW, June 21 (RIA Novosti) -- Mexico is against the trade embargo with Cuba, Mexican President Vicente Fox said at Moscow State Institute of Foreign Relations (MGIMO) Tuesday.

"We are strongly against the trade embargo with Cuba," he said. "It is not a solution to the issue."

The Mexican president pointed out that Mexico has "great relations with Cuba." He called the relations "very productive" and said they included trade and economic cooperation.

Fox also said that Mexico has close integration ties with The United States and Canada.

He said Mexico also interacts with Latin America, members of the Central American economic bloc, the Caribbean countries, the Andes group and participates in Mercosur (or the Southern Common market, a trade zone) with the goal of reaching a continental agreement.

"Unfortunately, in 2005, we failed to reach such an agreement, although we continue to conclude regional agreements," Fox said.

The Mexican president arrived in Moscow Monday on an official visit.

His agenda includes talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and meetings with executive and legislative officials.
