Mexico: Illegal immigrants flee

MEXICO CITY, July 4 (UPI) -- A group of illegal immigrants escaped from a Mexico City migration center, among them a group of Cubans.

In all, 31 immigrants climbed over the wall of the center where Mexico keeps illegal immigrants transiting through the country and attempting to get into the United States.

Officials said the escapees posed no public threat, El Universal newspaper reported Monday.

At least seven of them were Cubans who entered Mexico via the Yucatan Peninsula.

Thousands of illegal immigrants from throughout Latin America attempt to cross into the United States overland through Mexico every year.
