Mexico replaces top U.S. diplomats, citing hostile climate

Mexico's government on Tuesday unexpectedly changed two of its top officials responsible for U.S. relations, citing concerns about an increasingly anti-Mexican climate across the border.

Carlos Sada, previously the consul in Los Angeles, was named ambassador to the United States while Paulo Carreno, one of President Enrique Pena Nieto's communications chiefs, was appointed the deputy foreign minister for North America.

The new ambassador must still be approved by the Senate.

"We have been warning that our citizens have begun to feel a more hostile climate," Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu told local radio after the announcement.

"This (anti-Mexican) rhetoric has made it clear that we have to act in a different way so that this tendency being generated doesn't damage the bilateral relationship," she added.

Mexican government officials have expressed concern about the rise of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump due to his repeated verbal attacks on Mexico, and his insistence that Mexico should be made to pay for a border wall.

Trump on Tuesday threatened to block remittances from undocumented Mexican migrants if elected president unless the country pays billions for his planned wall.

Trump also called Ford's announcement that it would build more cars in Mexico "an absolute disgrace."

Mexico, you are bad actors in our country. You steal our jobs here in the US with illegal aliens, you steal other jobs through the NAFTA treasonous trade agreement. You steal our money through illegal drugs and illegal remittances. Then you whine for aid and special treatment as if you're some friend of ours. You are not a friend of ours. You're the distant cousin by marriage that showed up on your door-step to visit for a weekend, never left, ate all your food, stole all your money and then burned your house down. Friends don't do that to a friend and call it a "bilateral relationship".

Americans like the Mexican people except when they're invading our country, stealing our jobs, killing our citizens, drugging our families and sucking our money supply out of our country. Those acts are definitely creating a public relations problem for Mexico, and it's not our problem to solve, it's Mexico's.

The Mexican government is responsible for the hostile climate against their citizens in the U.S.

Mexican officials here and abroad are involved in a daily interference in our immigration matters and American sovereignty.

Your disrespect for U.S. law regarding your illegal migrants begins on your side of the border and should start with the Mexican Government
immediately stop publishing pamphlet guides on breaching the U.S. border safely and how to evade detection & U.S. law once across.

As with all sovereign countries, the decision about who can enter and permanently reside in a country is central to its identity.

Mexico must stop undermining U.S. border law by encouraging it's citizens to illegally cross border into the United States and respect
the sovereignty of this country.

And yes, Mexico needs to act in a different way to not damage the bilateral relationship...

Spend more time enforcing your own rule of law and fighting corruption in Mexico and less time undermining our rule of law!

Well said! Mexico is "hostile" against it's own citizens. They are not good border neighbors and need to clean up their act. Start by calling all your illegal migrants back home and taking care of your own citizens. Capture all gang members and wipe them out. US taxpayers are NOT your ATM machine and we are not the dumping ground for the world anymore. Cut off all foreign aid to Mexico and Central America. Give them a Comprehensive Plan for Reform...start making major progress and becoming productive members of society and better neighbors to the United States...you have used and abused our good nature and generosity for far too long. NO MORE!
