Mexico threatens tariffs against U.S.

MEXICO CITY — Mexico is prepared to impose tariffs on U.S. goods unless the U.S. fulfills an agreement to let Mexican trucks carry goods across the border, Transportation and Communications Minister Luis Tellez said.
Tellez, responding to a July 24 vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to delay the start of a trial cross-border trucking program, said the North American Free Trade Agreement permits retaliatory tariffs. The House voted to limit Mexican trucks for a year to a zone within 25 miles of the border. President Bush had agreed to start the plan in April.
"Should the U.S. Senate affirm the House decision, we will have no option but to take retaliatory commercial measures against the U.S.," Tellez said.

Pork growers insist on a tariff FOR pork imports


Mexican pork growers formally requested to the Secretariat of the Economy (SE) the establishment of an "emergency tariff" for pork imports from the United States. Enrique Dominguez, director of the Mexican Pork Growers Confederation, explained that their affiliates have reported losses of nearly US $140,000 last year, and that domestic production has lost over 50% of the Mexican market because of U.S. imports. "Farms are closing, production units are closing down. We’ve requested tariff protection under the Agricultural Chapter of WTO", said Dominguez, who also explained that the GOM could request the tariff as retaliation for the U.S. refusal to grant access to Mexican trucks. that is one reason, but they "mexicans" have already undercut american truck drivers. My brother being one. He used to be a truck driver, making decent pay... until the illegals came... he had to get out of the business because of LOW LOW LOW wages he was being undercut by..

and that didn't take into account when he did go back to work for sh*t wages, the office help gave all the best pickups to the mexicans and they treated him like dirt... and yes, they were mostly hispanic in the office..

Mexico's response is exactly like Castro or China would react. They are angry becuase the citizens of this country run this country, unlike theirs where they circumvent their own laws and dictate to get what they want. I hope this thing becomes a real pain in the neck for the WTO, NAFTA and the NAU! I don't see how any of these organizations are going to survive with such greed running rampant. This enables Mexico to export more unemployment. Mexican drivers are less expensive than American drivers. It would be easier to smuggle drugs and people into the USA.

There are several factors as to why Mexico is pissed, stopping the trucks by U.S. citizens is one, the one that really hurts is the U.S. citizens stopping the last immigration bill and deporting so many of their citizens, the more we deport the more it hurts Mexico as they have become very dependant on the # 2 souce of money flowing into that country and that is billions coming from illegals sending money back to support thier families.
They could care less how this is hurting middle class Americans, as long as Mexicans are working and bringing U.S. dollars into to Mexican economy by any means possible, be it truck drivers or illegal workers in our country!! :evil:

Please Mexico, please DO put a big tarrif on US corn and other agricultural products, as it will keep many of your illegal aliens in Mexico! The prices for ag products in Mexico is so low the small farmers cannot make any money, so they come here.

When your citizens complain about increasing food prices, just tax Carlos Slim and give the poor food stamps.
