Elias Felix-Andres, 28, of Orleans, pleaded guilty April 26 to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC). Two additional charges of first-degree and second-degree CSC were dismissed in exchange for his plea. His attorney was Walter Downes of Ionia.
Felix-Andres was sentenced July 31 by Ionia County 8th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Ronald Schafer to from 53 months to 15 years prison.
According to Ionia County Prosecutor Kyle Butler, a 13-year-old girl’s mother was deported from Orleans to Guatemala after child abuse charges were filed against her involving physical abuse against the girl in November 2017. After the mother posted bond, U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials picked up the woman for deportation. The woman placed her daughter with the woman’s boyfriend, Felix-Andres, as power of attorney.
According to Butler, Felix-Andres repeatedly sexually assaulted the girl from October 2017 through April 2018 in Orleans. The girl eventually shared what was happening with a liaison in the Hispanic community. The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
Felix-Andres is set to be deported to Mexico after serving his prison time.
The girl now has an asylum visa and has been placed in a guardianship by Ionia County Probate Court and the Department of Health & Human Services.
