Soldiers began placing barbed concertina wire overnight at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge.

The military has been dispatched to Laredo and other U.S.-Mexico border cities for the potential arrival of a caravan of thousands of migrants. Most of the migrants in that caravan, however, are headed for California.

But "there still remains the possibility of another wave of migrants heading towards any other part of our southern border," Laredo Mayor Pete Saenz and Acting City Manager Cynthia Collazo said in a statement Thursday night. "We are told by federal authorities that threats could conceivably materialize within hours depending on the mobility modes undertaken by the caravan."

The Trump administration has dispatched more than 5,900 active-duty troops to the border to buttress U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers processing asylum claims. Federal law and Pentagon policy limits the scope of what the troops can do, though the military has said they could be asked to fly CBP officers in helicopters to less secure parts of the border if the caravan attempts to enter the country there.

While Saenz and Collazo said they appreciate "reasonable and timely border security measures," they were concerned with the potential impact of the military operations.

"Our city, just like every single border town from Brownsville to San Diego, depends on international travel and shoppers from Mexico to stimulate our local economy especially during the holidays," they said. "Our Laredo city leaders are very concerned that these operations, if not properly weighed, may have a lasting detrimental impact on our image, tourism, and international business.

"The City of Laredo has for years worked tirelessly with other border communities to dispel misinformation about the Texas border being unsafe and a war zone. We will continue to have conversations with our federal agencies and representatives to see how best we can help address the issue of border security in a way that is effective and does not harm the way of life for our border communities."

The international bridges in Laredo will remain open, and the Sisters Cities said they want to remind residents and visitors to "continue with daily life, enjoy cross border traffic and international commerce as usual."

Our "city leaders" need to demand that ALL asylum, refugee, TPS and illegal alien programs are defunded and terminated then we would not have this continuous problem of illegal immigration and the constant problems at our border!

    SHUT IT ALL DOWN

    NO PAPERS

    NO ENTRY

    NO RIGHTS!

DEPORT THEM ALL AND THEIR UAC'S SO THEY STOP COMING HERE CAUSING PROBLEMS AND DISRUPTING OUR BORDER AND OUR BUSINESSES!

YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING! WE DON'T CARE!

WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION ILLEGAL ALIENS, THEIR ANCHOR BABIES AND THEIR ASYLUM LIES ARE DOING TO OUR COUNTRY, OUR WALLETS AND OUR SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAMS, SCHOOL AND HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

SO SUCK IT UP! WE NEED TO DEFEND OUR BORDER!
ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL

I have to question where they are placing some of this wire.

The placement along the bridge---it appears that could be guarded by troops.

Why not put the wire in some of the remote sections where the illegals are crossing daily.

I'm not criticizing the wire, I wish it were on all 1900 miles, just questioning the placement.

Is this wire more for show than stopping an invasion?

They are putting it there so hundreds of them do not bum rush the border crossing like they did in Southern Mexico.

I hope the next step is get the military to bulldoze the brush along the Rio Grande, burn it and create a 1 mile buffer zone for BP so they can see who is coming across. Burn out their hiding places and prepare the path for the wall!
