Migrant Head Start to get help

The federal Administration for Children and Families announced Monday that it will make $35 million available to organizations offering Head Start to children of migrant workers.

Head Start is a federal preschool program for children from low-income families.



Migrant Head Start programs enroll more than 33,000 children. The influx of funds is expected to open the program to at least 4,000 more children, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Grants will be available to 26 organizations that already offer Head Start to migrant children. Steve Barbour, a spokesman for the children and families agency, which is under HHS, said 11 of those organizations are in California, including in Stockton and Modesto.

"Obviously, California has a lot of migrant farmers and migrant workers," he said.

And what are you doing for US CITIZENS?
