Jerzy Rawszewski and a countryman were the subject of repeated complaints from residents, shoppers and retailers. Two drunken beggars behind a shoplifting spree in West Bromwich town centre have been kicked out of the UK.

Residents, shoppers and business owners made repeated complaints about Jerzy Rawszewski, 65, and an un-named 59-year-old.

Police found the pair sleeping rough in a disused outhouse off West Bromwich High Street on May 17.

The pair slept in these appalling conditions. The West Midlands force said a hotel had also complained of two homeless men matching their description using a stairwell as a toilet.

They were returned to their native Poland in a joint operation by West Midlands Police and Immigration Enforcement officers.

Rawszewski left on June 9.

The other man had already agreed to return to Poland voluntarily and was escorted to Luton Airport.

A third Pole also linked to booze-related yob behaviour went back to his homeland in February after being found sleeping in a shed, West Midlands Police said.

Pc Steve Horton said: “The men had become a real nuisance in the town centre and Carters Green area and caused significant alcohol-related anti-social behaviour.

“They were living in awful conditions and such was the state of the mess that Environmental Health officers were called to help with the clean-up operation.

The two men have been returned to Poland.“We had served them with warning letters and offered support and advice on alcohol addiction and housing but they refused to engage or accept offers of help.”
