A Minnesota fugitive wanted in connection with several alleged sex crimes was arrested at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge Wednesday.

Mexican national Esteban Emilio Armendariz, 32, is wanted out of the Watonwon County Sheriff’s Office in St. James, Minn., on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and four counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Armendariz, who was driving a 1995 Pontiac Sedan, was stopped by CPB officers working outbound enforcement operations, and both he and the vehicle were referred to secondary inspection, officials said.

Armendariz was transferred to the Pharr police department — where he is pending transfer to Minnesota — after a records check in a national crime database identified him as a fugitive, officials said.
