Just rec'd this from OFIR via email this morning...

OFIR members and supporters:

New Jersey State Attorney General Anne Milgram on Wednesday ordered all New Jersey law enforcement authorities to notify federal immigration officials, (ICE), whenever an illegal alien is arrested for an indictable offense or drunken driving.

Attorney General Milgram said the need to have a uniform state policy on notification to immigration authorities became evident after a recent triple murder in Newark. The policy, which follows the killings of three Newark college students, also specifies that prosecutors and courts be notified.

In the wake of the rape and murder of Dani Countryman we urge everyone to write to Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers and ask him to order all Oregon law enforcement officials to notify federal immigration authorities whenever an illegal alien is arrested for an indictable crime or for drunken driving.

Two cousins accused of raping and killing Dani Countryman admitted to being illegal aliens. One of them, Alejandro Gamboa, had been arrested four times on drunken driving charges since 2000 and yet ICE was never informed.

ORS 181.850 allows Oregon law enforcement officials to notify U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, (ICE), if a person is arrested for a criminal offense.

Please send a letter to Attorney General Hardy Myers asking him to require all Oregon law enforcement authorities to notify ICE whenever an illegal alien is arrested for an indictable offense or for drunken driving.
