More troops heading to TJ as 9 more bodies found

More troops heading to TJ as 9 more bodies found

TIJUANA – As the body count in a deadly battle between feuding drug gangs grew Wednesday – nine bodies were found between Tijuana and Rosarito Beach – , Baja California's governor announced that federal forces, including the Mexican army, will increase their presence in the state.

Authorities hope the larger law enforcement effort will quell the surge in violence that has left dozens dead over the past two weeks.

Between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning, nine more bodies were discovered: four near Rosarito Beach and an additional five in Tijuana, according to the Baja California Attorney General's Office.

Officials said they were still working to identify the bodies and determine how they died. They suspect the slayings are part of the ongoing battle between rival drug gangs that has seen bunches of bodies appear throughout the state in the last few weeks, mostly in Tijuana. The most dramatic episode was a running gunbattle that saw hundreds of bullets fired on one of the city's main streets.

The violence seems to be spreading across the state with the killing Tuesday of two state police officers in Mexicali, the state capital, according to the attorney general's office.

Baja California Gov. Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan met with President Felipe Calderon in Mexico City on Tuesday and announced the new operation aimed at quelling the violence.

The governor said there will be more federal forces in the state, particularly in Tijuana and Rosarito, to reinforce local efforts to stop the bloodshed. He did not give any details.

The operation may mirror one ordered by President Calderon shortly after taking office. As part of Operation Tijuana, he ordered as many as 3,300 federal police and soldiers to the border city in an effort to target corruption, lawlessness and violence in the region. While the show of force produced some short-term gains, the recent wave of slayings indicate that they have been reversed.

Calderon's success in arresting the leaders of some of the organized drug cartels has led to smaller, well-armed cells of disorganized crime that are now fighting among one another, according to experts.

There are probably plenty of people in Mexico who buy drugs, but I'm thinking their target market is us.

So, why doesn't Mexico and the US put armies on the border to stop the the flow of drugs.

Also, why doesn't our government either stop or put a low limit on the amount of money wired back to Mexico.

That's IF either side really wanted to stop or curtail the drug problem.

You are right, the Mexican Army will probably help them. I heard of that happening.

We could put troops on our border - and it will fix that problem.

US Troops would have been on that border long ago if this country were truly interested in stopping not only illegal invaders, but also drugs from entering this country from mexico. The reason the troops are not on that border is because it would actually work!

Besides, our politicians are more concerned with appearances ( troops on the border might offend mexico's sensitivities) rather than solving this problem!

I'm really thinking it has nothing to do with offending Mexico and as you say keeping it open for drugs or whatever.

I'd be willing to bet that drugs is probably one of, of not the, leading money maker, income, whatever in this nation.

There was a an article that said, many major cities would be bankrupt if drug dealing stopped.

I also think that could be a factor as well! It's most certainly true for Mexico! Ten years ago I would have said that's crazy. Now, i'm now convinced we have people in positions of power in this country, who have no shame in selling out this country and or placing the citizens of this country in harms way, in order to make a buck.

One of the main reason that it was so hard to catch outlaw gangs back in the old west was because they spent their money in certain towns so evreybody simply turned a blind eye as to where the money came from knowing that without the bad guys money the town would die.
Why should things be any different now? Bigger towns and more people simply means big money.
