The blitz, called Operation Maximum Effort IV was conducted by PSP troopers and other law enforcement agencies between Sept. 23 and Sept. 28.

A second goal of the blitz was to disrupt illegal activity and apprehend criminals who use the state's highways.

Across the state, police issued 1,239 citations and 397 written warnings for speeding, made 75 DUI arrests, wrote 97 tickets and gave 645 warnings for failure to use seat belts, gave seven citations and seven written warnings for failure to use proper child restraint seats, as well as 752 citations and 779 written warnings for other offenses.

Police also arrested 14 criminals and nine wanted fugitives during the blitz. They seized four vehicles, detained 16 illegal aliens and confiscated two fictitious identifications.

They seized 33 pounds of marijuana, an ounce of cocaine, six ounces of heroin and $163,420 in U.S. currency.

The enforcement blitz was the fourth such operation conducted by police across the state. Similar operations are expected to be conducted in the future, according to the PSP Bureau of Patrol in Harrisburg.
