Gulf Cartel members among arrested in Reynosa hotel raid

Authorities are breaking their silence about raid at hotel south of the border in downtown Reynosa.

The raid happened on Friday but Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (PGR) released information it on Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses told Action 4 news and Mexican media outlets that 40 people were arrested during a raid at the Hotel Gran Premier.

The hotel is located next to Reynosa’s central bus station in the southeast corner of downtown.

The PGR confirmed on Tuesday that nine members of the Gulf Cartel were arrested at raid the hotel where authorities found 11 immigrants, guns and marijuana.

Authorities identified the Gulf Cartel members as:

• Emilio Mata Saucedo
• Héctor Moreno MartÃ*nez
• Adán Soto RodrÃ*guez
• Valeria de Dios Hernández
• Patricia Isabel Aguilera GarcÃ*a
• Esther Adriana Chávez Meléndez
• Karla Patricia Guevara Fat
• Zue Monserrat Escobedo Olvera

The PGR reported that each of them are accused of organized crime, firearms and marijuana charges.

Under Mexican law, the nine suspects will be held for 40 days until the next phase of their case is ready.

Mexican media outlets had been reporting that family members of an employee hotel Zue Monserrat Escobedo Olvera had been protesting at the PGR’s Office in Reynosa.

They said federal investigators were denying involvement in the raid or knowledge of her whereabouts.

She was identified as one of the criminal suspects on Tuesday.
