A Brownsville man was arrested for attempting to smuggle more than 60 pounds of liquid methamphetamine across the Gateway International Bridge.

A Brownsville man was arrested Saturday after he attempted to smuggle more than 60 pounds of liquid methamphetamine across the Gateway International Bridge, according to a criminal complaint.

Jesus Yzaguirre Jr. entered the U.S. from Mexico in a white 2006 Ford van on Feb. 25.

After giving conflicting statements about the ownership of the van to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, Yzaguirre was sent to a second inspection.

An investigation by CBP officers led to 37 bags of a cloudy liquid hidden within the vehicle.

On-field testing by CBP officers revealed that the substance tested postive for liquid methamphetamine.

Yzaguirre later told CBP officers that he was conspiring with others to cross the van into the U.S. for a fee.

Yzaguirre was charged with possession with intent to distribute liquid methamphetamine.

Yzaguirre remains in federal custody. His attorney couldn't be reached for comment.
