Report: Mother of slain Mexican immigrant seeks 'death penalty'
    Jan 15, 2007

MEXICO CITY -- The mother of a Mexican immigrant shot to death last week by a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in Arizona asked for justice on Monday and said she would like to see the agent receive the death penalty.

"I want the death penalty for that killer, because my son was just trying to find a better opportunity," an emotional Laura Rivera told the Mexican news agency Notimex. "He was a young worker whom they simply killed in cold blood, so I want justice."

Francisco Javier Dominguez Rivera, 22, a native of the central state of Puebla, was shot and killed during a confrontation with the unidentified agent north of the U.S.-Mexico border between Bisbee and Douglas on Friday after the agent responded to a call about a group of seven people crossing the desert.

The agent took six of the seven people into custody without incident but then started fighting with Dominguez Rivera. The agent, who thought his life was in danger, shot and killed the man, the Border Patrol said previously.

The agent was put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. The FBI said Monday that it was investigating the death, while an autopsy of Dominguez Rivera was scheduled for Wednesday. Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Mexico's Foreign Relations Department condemned the shooting.

Dominguez Rivera's father, Renato Dominguez, said he doubted the Border Patrol's version of events.

"The one certain thing is that people there are racist and this is not the first Mexican they've killed," he said.

Dominguez Rivera left the city of Cuautla in the central state of Morelos, where his family is currently living, for the United States last Wednesday, accompanied by brothers Jorge and Rene Dominguez Rivera, their mother said.

The three brothers, like their father, were bricklayers, and were headed north to find jobs with better pay.

During family Christmas celebrations Francisco Dominguez Rivera told his mother, "'Mom, this Christmas is going to be unforgettable because in the next one we might not be together. But I'm going to help you from the United States. I'm going to send you money to finish your house,'" said Laura Rivera, who held a photo of her son in her hands, according to the Notimex report.

Rivera said officials told her husband that their son's body would arrive in Cuautla by Thursday at the latest.

"I want this all to be over, for them to bring the body and return my other two sons," Rivera said, weeping.

It is so sad that this young man had no future in his own country, that he would risk his life to come here, take on an armed official of the law, and then have the presidente' condemn it all, all the while it is his own countries fault for not providing the opportunities there.

They encourage them to come here, they are so corrupted that they can never provide a decent life for their own, then their youth come here illegally, and if something awful happens in that process, they are angry with us?

    What's wrong with this picture?

unless you know what happened mother, keep quiet till the facts are known. if he was fighting with the Bp agent and that agent feared for his life, then in the US he follows US law and faces the consequences he BRINGS UPON HIMSELF..

for mexicans who dont believe in the death penalty, she sure was quick to ask for it

Are all Hispanics drama queens? I have never heard so many dramatic and exaggerated statements in my life. It's so ridiculous. If they really believed half of what they said, they would suffer from chronic panic attacks.

Actually, she should be warning other mothers about the dangers of allowing their children to cross the border.

I'm sure her son did something very stupid and the BP felt that his life was threatened so he responded exactly the way he was trained to react.

The Cuautla area is where they filmed "Butch Cassiday and the Sundance Kid".

The thing they wanted to spend the money made in the U.S. on was a house which is a form of consumption. Although Cuautla draws many tourists and so has a possibility of a rental a better expenditure would have been an investment in a warehouse, factory shell or a barn.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Calderón decries fatal shooting of migrant by U.S. border agent
    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Mexican President Felipe Calderón on Sunday condemned the shooting death of a Mexican immigrant in Arizona by a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
Francisco Javier Dominguez-Rivera, 22, of Puebla, Mexico, was killed Friday in a confrontation with the unidentified agent. The Border Patrol in Tucson has said little about the incident, except that the agent thought his life was in danger.
During a news conference at his presidential residence in Mexico City, Calderón expressed his "most energetic protest" against the shooting and said the Mexican government has demanded a full investigation.
The incident occurred just north of the U.S.-Mexican border between Bisbee and Douglas, said Carol Capas, Cochise County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
The agent was responding to a call about a group of seven people who were crossing the desert, said Rob Daniels, a Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman.
Upon arrival, the agent took six of the seven people into custody without incident but then started fighting with Dominguez-Rivera. The agent shot and killed the man, Daniels said.
The agent has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
Over the weekend, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office was conducting interviews about the shooting. The Dominguez-Rivera autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

She(the mother) has got to be kidding. After what happened to Compean and Ramos for shooting a drug dealer in the butt, I fear what will happen to this BP agent. We have to keep watching this one.

Oh no, she's not kidding. She's got $$ in her eyes. That's the reason her son was sent to American in the first place, and now the prize just got bigger. Or so she thinks.

She wants to be the posterwoman for demonizing America.

Just don't come here illegally! What about the Americans and Canadians that have been killed in your country!

How about we sue you and your country! Heck, I think what is happening at our Southern border everyday is an act of WAR!

The Mexicans think the death penalty is just fine, provided it's only applied to the evil gringos.

Mexico is an evil, racist, hate-filled country. I guess that's why GWB wants to import millions of them up here.
It's like hell vomited and the Bush administration appeared.
