Mourdock endorsed by the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

    April 20, 2012

Indianapolis, IN (April 20, 2012) – Indiana State Treasurer, U.S. Senate Candidate in Republican Primary on May 8th, received the endorsement of the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), America's largest grassroots organization for the promotion of immigration enforcement and border security advocacy, over six-term incumbent Senator Dick Lugar.

"I appreciate the support of the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC and the thousands of Americans nationwide who believe as I do that we need to work to prevent illegal immigrants from using taxpayer-funded services. As a U.S. Senator, I will fight to secure our borders and ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent only on those legally allowed to live in the United States.

"Unfortunately, Senator Dick Lugar believes that illegal immigrants should have the same rights as citizens and law-abiding legal residents. Lugar has a long record of fighting for amnesty for illegal immigrants and is a primary sponsor of the DREAM Act, which would fast-track amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants nationwide. I staunchly oppose the DREAM Act and any other legislation that would provide amnesty for illegal immigrants. I believe that we must act immediately to secure our borders and enforce the law," stated Treasurer Mourdock.

ALIPAC President William Gheen said, "Indiana voters have a clear choice between Richard Mourdock, who will fight to protect American jobs, taxpayer resources and lives from illegal immigration, and Richard Lugar, who has fought to support the interests of illegal immigrants over American citizens. Polls show us that Americans reject Richard Lugar's amnesty legislation three-to-one and we need to remind GOP voters about Lugar's amnesty plans before they vote. We need Indiana voters to vote against amnesty for illegal aliens by voting for Mourdock and against Lugar."

Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock is an outspoken critic of the debt ceiling vote, a strong advocate of serious fiscal reform starting with spending cuts, a champion of the Second Amendment and a voice for conservative values.

To date, Mourdock has received endorsements from the National Rifle Association, the Club for Growth, Indiana Right to Life, Steve Forbes, Citizens United Political Victory Fund, talk show host Mark Levin, Gun Owners of America, FreedomWorks, Tea Party Express, Concerned Women PAC, Eagle Forum, Morton Blackwell and Red State's Erick Erickson.

Illegal Immigrant Amnesty Fighting Group Endorses Richard Mourdock for US Senate

Richard Mourdock, 2012's Low-Key Tea Partier

What do you get when the Tea Party's anger simmers away?

You get Richard Mourdock, the low-key fiscal conservative who's challenging Sen. Richard Lugar, the longest-tenured Republican in the U.S. Senate. The GOP senate primary in Indiana takes place May 8.

"I am a very even-keeled guy," Mourdock told ABC News in an April interview. "Mr. Lugar is trying to paint me as this wild-eyed Tea-Party guy. It's not like I just popped up like a morel mushroom in the spring of agitation."

Indeed he didn't. After a career in business, Mourdock was first elected state treasurer in 2006, debatably a better year for Democrats than 2008. Now, after that spring of agitation, he's been endorsed over Lugar by Sarah Palin, influential conservative blogger Erick Erickson, Congresswoman Michelle Bachman, D.C. conservative groups FreedomWorks and the Club for Growth, the American Conservative Union, the National Rifle Association, Citizens United, Tea Party Express, and Grover Norquist.

Mourdock is running, he says, because a handful of Indiana Republican State Committee members asked him to, a surprise to Mourdock given Lugar's long standing. "People started saying to me, 'It's time,'" Mourdock said. "I heard it many times: He has a Washington view and not a Hoosier view."

Lugar's supporters have sprung to his defense, most notable among them Gov. Mitch Daniels, the American Action Network, a D.C.-based 501(c)4 group founded by former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman and run by GOP fundraising luminary Fred Malek. Two super PACs have formed in 2012, one in D.C. and another in Sacramento, for the purpose of attacking Mourdock. The Young Guns Network, a 501(c)4 group formed by former aides to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, is supporting Lugar with TV ads as part of a campaign on energy and conservation.

As a result, Indiana's Senate primary has become a proxy battle between the GOP's establishment and its Tea-Party wing. Last week, eight outside groups had spent nearly $2.2 million; since then, two more groups have gotten involved, and outside spending totals nearly $4.3 million.

Conservatives see Indiana as the latest battleground in the war over Republican Party identity, a chance to unseat one of the final old-guard senators who upholds such traditions as earmarks and working with Democrats. The race bears the mark of every Tea-Party-vs.-establishment primary in 2010: A conservative candidate arises, is backed by national groups (both the "grassroots" PACs and the TV-ad-funders), and Republicans enter an affair with a candidate deemed ideologically pure--one who may or may not change Washington.

Mourdock's supporters have outspent Lugar's $2.6 million to $1.6 million. As of March 31, Lugar had spent $5.1 million to Mourdock's $1.7 million. With news that Lugar's largest backer, the American Action Network, canceled $200,000 worth of air time, the possibility of Lugar's demise looks even more real.

With Mitt Romney as their presidential standard bearer, and with Sen. Orrin Hatch having learned from the downfall of last year's Tea-Party casualty Bob Bennett in Utah, Mourdock offers Tea Partiers their best chance for a high-profile primary coup in 2012.

One thing is certain: If Lugar loses, Maine's Susan Collins will be the only centrist, bipartisan Republican senator left.

    Richard Mourdock Endorsements ..

    Americans for Legal Immigration
Mourdock is in a close primary race with incumbent Senator Richard Lugar who is a notorious Amnesty supporter. Richard Lugar worked closely with liberal illegal alien Amnesty supporter Dick Durbin to try and pass the unpopular Dream Act Amnesty which has failed in Washington five times. Incumbent Senator Richard Lugar has also opposed bills that would have strengthened America's border enforcement. The DC watchdog group NumbersUSA gives Richard Lugar a "D" grade on immigration issues due to his support for illegal immigrant Amnesty.
"Indiana voters have a clear choice between Richard Mourdock, who will fight to protect American jobs, taxpayer resources, and lives from illegal immigration, and Richard Lugar, who has fought to support the interests of illegal immigrants over American citizens," said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. "Polls show us that Americans reject Richard Lugar's Amnesty legislation 3 to 1 and we need to remind GOP voters about Lugar's Amnesty plans before they vote. We need Indiana voters to vote against Amnesty for illegal aliens by voting for Mourdock and against Lugar."

    Campaign for Working Families
"Now, more than ever, we need men and women in Congress who understand the proper, limited role of government. We need committed conservatives who will unapologetically defend the common sense values of the American people.
[Richard Mourdock's] tireless leadership in support of pro-family, pro-life and pro-free enterprise policies is greatly valued by [the Campaign for Working Families] and all of our members. I’m proud to stand with you in the fight for faith, family and freedom!" said Gary Bauer, Chairman.

    Citizens United Political Victory Fund
“After 35 years in Washington, Dick Lugar does not understand what it means to be a conservative Republican," said David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United. "Just last year, when conservatives were fighting the failed policies of Barack Obama, Dick Lugar had just a 71 percent American Conservative Union rating. That is unacceptable when America faces a $14 trillion national debt and 9.2 percent unemployment."
"Dick Lugar could have showed some spine in the recent debt vote and followed the junior Senator from Indiana, Dan Coats, in voting "no" on a piece of legislation that does not solve our nation's debt crisis. Richard Mourdock is the only true conservative in the race for U.S. Senate, and he will stand up against the failed policies of Barack Obama. At the end of the day, Dick Lugar just wants to be Barack Obama's friend."

    Club for Growth
"After thirty-six years in Washington, it's time to send Richard Lugar home," said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. "Richard Lugar has served honorably, but he's been part of the problem in Washington. He's voted for bigger government, more spending, and he even recently voted against a permanent ban on congressional pork. Richard Mourdock will vote to limit government, repeal ObamaCare, and will help bring back the jobs lost to the Obama's economic policies. The Club for Growth PAC proudly endorses Richard Mourdock for United States Senate."

    Concerned Women of America
It really does matter who makes the laws, doesn’t it? It all comes down to this; if you want good conservative policy, you have to elect good conservative policy makers.
That’s why Concerned Women Political Action Committee (CWPAC) exists.

    Conservative Leadership PAC
Touting an impressive track record, the Conservative Leadership PAC (CLPAC) has assisted in the elections of conservatives such as Dick Armey, Rand Paul, Pat Toomey, Jim DeMint and Michele Bachmann. It is the CLPAC’s mission to aide conservative candidates in highly contested state and national campaigns.
CLPAC was founded by Morton Blackwell as one of the first conservative PACs.
In a statement, Morton Blackwell declared: "Richard Mourdock would be the type of U.S. Senator who could constitute the new generation of conservative leadership in America."

    Eagle Forum
"Richard Mourdock is committed to the pro-family agenda of protecting life and marriage, keeping taxes low and creating jobs," said Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly. "Not only will Mourdock vote for pro-family policies, but unlike Richard Lugar, we know can count on him to oppose judicial nominees who do not share our values."
"Now more than ever, we must take back our country by electing a veto-proof Congress full of rock solid conservatives, not politicians who will 'go along to get along' at Washington, D.C. dinner parties," Schlafly concluded. "We need candidates like Richard Mourdock. I urge all conservatives to vote for Mourdock in the Republican primary."

    Erick Erickson
Conservatives and tea party activists can and should seize this moment and beat Richard Lugar. In fact, I hear that the GOP establishment in D.C. is deeply worried. There is independent polling out showing Lugar is extremely vulnerable to be beaten in a Republican primary.
Let’s do it. And let’s do it with Richard Mourdock.
Mourdock can win. He has a track record. The Republicans in Indiana have grown weary of Senator Lugar. It’s time to retire Lugar to the Bipartisan Policy Center, where all former moderate Republicans go to embrace their inner liberal, and send Richard Mourdock to the United States Senate.

    Family Research Council PAC
“Indiana State Treasurer Mourdock is a strong conservative who will work to protect the freedom of Americans by advocating for limited government. He is pro-life, and consistently supports the traditional values at the core of our society,” said Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council Action.
