MS-13 gang members 'laugh' at how easily they can get in the US, says former head of Border Patrol

Mark Morgan led CBP late in Obama's presidency

A former Border Patrol chief offered a disconcerting perspective on the border security debate Monday, telling Fox News' Tucker Carlson that MS-13 gang members "laugh" at how easily they can illegally enter the United States, according to The Daily Caller.

"Before I was the chief of border patrol I was with the FBI," former head of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan said. "And I actually supervised MS-13 gang force in southern California. We used to catch them on surveillance wires and they would laugh, MS-13 gang members would laugh [at] how easy it was to go back between Mexico and the U.S. border."

Morgan was on Carlson's show to discuss the dangers of having a "dysfunctional immigration policy." The former CBP chief referenced a court decision that requires the timed release of minor children apprehended at the border as an example.

"They only have a few—amount of days, and once they hit that, they've got to release [minor children] regardless if they've been properly vetted, regardless if they have a parent in the United States, they have to be released into the interior United States," Morgan said.

Two illegal immigrants who were recently arrested for beating up two New York high school students had been arrested before, but were released eventually because they were minors when they entered the U.S.

They entered the U.S. in 2016 as unaccompanied minors and were released into the U.S. after their capture to live with family as they waited for their immigration proceedings to move forward.

"One of the loopholes we are imploring Congress to close could have prevented this gruesome attack," Homeland Security spokeswoman Katie Waldman said according to The Washington Times.
