President Trump's acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney once said he'd be willing to discuss giving partial amnesty to a portion of illegal immigrants and was "disappointed" more Republicans would not consider it as a pillar of immigration reform.

"I am more than willing to have a discussion about allowing at least part of the 11 million people here illegally to have some type of status," Mulvaney, a founding member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and a former Republican House member, said in Spanish at an hourlong 2014 town hall in his South Carolina district. "I’m just disappointed that more people in my party don’t want to do that."

Mulvaney's district was reliant on immigrant and low-skilled labor for agricultural and economic production. Prior to the town hall, Mulvaney was receiving pressure from farmers, manufacturers, and other outside groups about the need for legal immigrants who could work low-wage jobs within the district.

Still, the comments could come under scrutiny after Mulvaney on Friday was named the acting replacement for outgoing chief of staff John Kelly. The president's choice was immediately called into question after a video surfaced of Mulvaney calling Trump a " terrible human being" days before he defeated Hillary Clinton in November 2016.

Mulvaney will now serve as the top White House staffer to a president who has repeatedly argued against "amnesty" and once publicly called for the immediate deportation — outside of the judicial system — of people who cross the border illegally.

"We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came," Trump tweeted in July. "Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order."

Mulvaney's comments also appear to conflict with a number of policies within the president's " 70-point Immigration Plan," like proposals to ensure "swift border returns" for illegal immigrants, the removal of visa overstays, and other provisions of the president's immigration platform.

The White House did not respond to multiple requests for comment as to whether or not the administration is concerned about Mulvaney's 2014 statement. Mulvaney's office also chose to not respond to inquiries.

Despite some potential conflicts and past criticisms of the president, Mulvaney has become one of Trump's closest advisers in the administration and has a gained his trust. Mulvaney has served as the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget since the president took office and was the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for more than a year, until a director took office last week.

Video of that meeting, clearly shows many of the R's are on the same page as the D's on immigration.

The difference I've observed over the years is most Republicans want to stop illegal immigration, whereas most DemoQuacks do not.

Hmm, and Trump said he wanted someone in the position that thought like him.

Yep, and I figure he'll be working hard to soften Trump even more on a future amnesty trade-off plan. After all, he will now have access to him daily ... more coking, joking, and golf playing discussions.

This pretend to be an R , when really a D in disguise, goes deep, even into the Freedom Caucus.Trump is on their side, if not instead of screaming at the D's constantly he would call out the R's.
Instead of calling out these R's he hides behind them to do nothing, which is his true plan.

Mick Mulvaney in October 2016: Trump would be disqualified from office in an 'ordinary universe'

(CNN)Incoming White House acting-chief of staff Mick Mulvaney once said Donald Trump's past words and actions would disqualify him from becoming president in an "ordinary universe."

Mulvaney made the comments in a previously unreported October 2016 radio interview in which he also said Trump is not a role model and has said "atrocious things." On October 7, 2016, a week before Mulvaney made the comments, the Access Hollywood tape of Trump making lewd comments about women, including bragging about grabbing them by the genitals, was made public.

"My guess is worse stuff is going to come out in the last 30 days," Mulvaney said on October 13, 2016 on the Jonathon and Kelly Show, a South Carolina-based radio show. "They've got more videotapes. Everything the guy's ever said is on a videotape or an audio tape. There is going to be some atrocious things that are gonna come out. That's not going to make Hillary Clinton a good candidate for president."

"Should either of these people be, be a role model for my 16-year-old triplets? No," Mulvaney said. "In an ordinary universe, would both of these people's past activities disqualify them for serving for office? Yes. But that's not the world we live in today. The world we live in today, it's either him or her and for me that's still an easy choice."


The resurfacing of Mulvaney's remarks attacking Trump's character in 2016 comes as he is being elevated within the President's orbit. Trump announced on Friday that Mulvaney would serve as acting chief of staff, replacing Gen. John Kelly. Mulvaney currently serves as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.

The Daily Beast on Friday reported that Mulvaney, then a congressman, called Trump "a terrible human being" at a November 2016 congressional debate.

In a 2016 Facebook post, Mulvaney similarly said he had learned throughout the 2016 campaign that Trump "is not a very good person."

In all instances, Mulvaney said he was supporting Trump, but only because he believed Hillary Clinton would be a worse president.

In a statement, Meghan Burris, a spokesperson for Mulvaney, said, "This is old news. These comments were made in 2016, when he was a Congressman and had yet to meet the President. Congressman Mulvaney continued to support then-Candidate Trump throughout the election, and his support for President Trump has never wavered while serving within the Administration. He both likes and respects the President, and he likes working for him."

"More importantly, Director Mulvaney believes in the President - because he is working every day to lift up millions of Americans and stands up for our great country," Burris added.
