Murder in Denver

With thousands of Coloradans and officers of Denver's police department, I watched Friday's funeral service honoring Officer Donald Young's life and service to the city of Denver.

It was appalling to see the audacity of Denver's Mayor Hickenlooper in approaching Officer Young's widow to express his regret and condolence. How can the man be so oblivious to his complicity in the death of Officer Young when the murderer was an employee at Hickenlooper's restaurant?

Notwithstanding the "blind trust" of Hickenlooper's business interests.

Hickenlooper provided aid and comfort in the form of employment to an illegal alien turned murderer. That the illegal alien evaded apprehension and punishment for entering the US illegally is due to Hickenlooper's continuing Denver's "sanctuary" status.

Three separate times, Raul Garcia-Gomez presented a Mexican drivers' license showing clearly his non-US citizen status. Only because of Denver's "don't ask, don't tell" order did the court not inquire whether his US presence was legal.

Hickenlooper claims he wasn't aware of his predecessor's "sanctuary" order. Whether or not I believe him, the Mayor knows now. He also knows that those running his business are very lax in checking applicants' legal status.

Had Hickenlooper canceled his predecessor's "sanctuary" order, would Donald Young still be alive? Very likely.

Despite repeated killings and maimings of Coloradans by illegal aliens, Hickenlooper's "sanctuary" order remains in force. Will HIckenlooper even consider whether the "sanctuary" should be canceled? His silence is deafening.

The ball is now in Hickenlooper's court. He should cancel Denver's "sanctuary order revoking the "haven" Denver now offers for illegal aliens. Will His Honor the Mayor do it? He should review the hiring practices of his "blind trust" businesses, insuring that each applicant is checked through the Workplace Verification Program. Will His Honor the Mayor do it?

The insanity of assuming illegal aliens to be harmless people just because they "do jobs Americans won't do" was obvious long ago. We've long known that drug dealers, murderers, rapists and cop-killers masquerade as dishwashers and landscapers.

One thing is certain. Officer Donald Young won't be the last Coloradan victim of an illegal alien who should have been apprehended and deported. Will Hickenlooper do his utmost to stop it, or will he continue to do nothing?

What excuse will Hickenlooper hide behind in the future?

Not "I wasn't aware."
