After a PolitiChick reader saw this photo, she alerted us about the website StopMassIncarceration.net. Stop Mass Incarceration is a 501(c)(3) organization created by Carl Dix, who is a founding member of theRevolutionary Communist Party, USA. Articles on the site are redirected toRevCom.US, “The Voice of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA”.
From an article entitled Obama to Immigrant Children: Detention, Deportations, Ripping Apart Families WELCOME TO THE USA:
“The United States government and its system of capitalism-imperialism are inflicting great crimes upon the people of Central America, especially the children. 52,000 immigrant children trying to enter the U.S., many escaping extreme poverty, repression, and gang conflicts, and trying to reunite with their families, have been taken into custody in the first eight months of this fiscal year, and the numbers grow daily. 39,000 or so mothers and children have crossed the border in the last few months. Another 90,000 women and children are expected to cross the border in the next few months.”At least it’s good to know who we’re dealing with.

The Stop Mass Incarceration Network is a project of the Alliance for Global Justice, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Stop Mass Incarceration Network is building a movement to stop the injustice of mass incarceration and police brutality; and the racially biased policies and practices of the police, the courts and the U.S. legal system; and to support the rights of prisoners and the formerly incarcerated. We call on all to join us.
The Stop Mass Incarceration Nework started with this Call issued by Cornel West and Carl Dix, September 2011: Read
National Vision Statement:
STOP MASS INCARCERATION — WE’RE BETTER THAN THAT!
Purpose
We are initiating an effort to accelerate the movement to stop the injustice of mass incarceration and police brutality; and the racially biased policies and practices of the police, the courts and the U.S. legal system; and to support prisoners’ human rights, and of the formerly incarcerated. We call on all to join us.
Our View And Understanding
2.4 million-plus people are locked up in prisons across the US — that’s more than any other country in the world! Most of those incarcerated are Black or Latino. Fact: One in every eight Black men in their twenties is in prison or jail on any given day. These numbers should shock the conscience of the nation. But too many do not question racially targeted mass incarceration because the authorities justify it as effective in stopping crime. This is simply not true; black people are incarcerated at many times the rate of white people despite similar rates for committing offenses. This racially targeted mass incarceration results from whole generations of inner city youth being criminalized; of poor communities being saddled with substandard schools that fail to educate our youth; and from the disappearance of employment opportunities in inner cities and rural areas.
Those in prison are often subjected to conditions that amount to torture — substandard diets, segregated and brutalized on the whim of prison guards, often confined to cells 24-7 and denied human contact for weeks at a time. These conditions are so horrible that thousands of prisoners in California recently went on hunger strike, putting their lives on the line to assert their humanity and demand decent treatment. On top of all this, after people serve their sentences, our society stamps them with a badge of dishonor and shame, discriminating against them when they seek employment, denying them access to public housing and government loans and even the right to vote!
THIS IS UNJUST! IT IS INTOLERABLE, AND IT MUST BE STOPPED! The “Stop Mass Incarceration: We Are Better Than That! Network” is initiating an effort to accelerate the movement to stop this injustice, and we call on you to join us.
Mass incarceration is a system of social control targeting especially Black and Latino youth that has been aptly called "the New Jim Crow". Many different forces are doing important things to expose the injustice of mass incarceration. But an important ingredient has been missing from this mix. It took dramatic mass resistance to rivet the attention of society on the old Jim Crow — racial segregation and the lynch mob terror that enforced it. And it will take the same kind of determined mass resistance to stop the New Jim Crow!
If you feel mass incarceration is an outrage: if you think young people should not be treated like criminals because they are Black or Latino; if you think people shouldn’t be subjected to torture because they’re in prison; if you think former prisoners shouldn’t be forced to wear badges of shame and dishonor — join us. We must no longer allow this injustice to be perpetrated in our names — WE’RE BETTER THAN THAT!
Contact us and strategize together with us to figure out how to unleash dramatic mass resistance against this injustice. Bring someone from the network to speak at your school; your church, mosque or synagogue; or in your community. Get connected to resistance being planned in your area. If there is nothing planned in your area, plan something.
We don’t have to accept this as the way things have to be. All this is the result of conscious policies put in place by those at the very top of this society. We can and must rip aside the cloak of "post-racial America" and reveal the ugly reality that lies beneath.
STOP - STOP AND FRISK!NO MORE MARIJUANA BUSTS!THE WAR ON DRUGS IS A WAR ON THE PEOPLE!STOP MASS INCARCERATION—WE’RE BETTER THAN THAT!The Stop Mass Incarceration Network is a project of the Alliance for Global Justice, a 501c3 tax-exempt organization. Tax-deductible contributions accepted online or checks made payable to the "Alliance for Global Justice," with "Stop Mass Incarceration Network" in the memo line may be sent to: Stop Mass Incarceration Network c/o P.O. This Call was issued by Cornel West and Carl Dix, September 2011:
You’re young and Black or Latino. You’re on your way out to have a good time, without a care in the world. Or you’re going to or from work or school, or just hanging out in your hood. All of sudden cops descend on you. They make you turn out your pockets and show some ID; maybe they disrespect you in the process. If you’re lucky, it doesn’t go any farther than this.
But only going that far is still too damn far! And it happens all the damn time. The NYPD is on pace to stop and frisk over 700,000 people in 2011! That’s more than 1,900 people each and every day. More than 85% of them are Black or Latino, and more than 90% of them were doing nothing wrong when the cops stepped to them.
What gives the NY police department the right to stop and frisk you just because you are Black or Latino? Who revoked the part of the constitution protecting people from unreasonable search and seizure for people whose skin happens to be Black or Brown? And these kinds of stops can easily go beyond harassment and humiliation. Remember Amadou Diallo, gunned down in a hail of 41 police bullets because they said they thought his wallet was a gun? This is intolerable! It must be stopped. WE ARE STOPPING IT, AND YOU MUST JOIN US IN DOING THAT!
NY police chief Ray Kelly says his cops don’t practice racial profiling. The numbers show that Kelly’s statement is a lie. Is he stupid, or does he think we’re stupid enough to believe this lie. Policies like Stop & Frisk are why there are 2.5 million people in jails across this country. They have criminalized whole generations of our youth. This is intolerable, and it must be stopped. And we are stopping it!
Figures on marijuana arrests in NYC tell the same story. Despite the fact that NY decriminalized possession of small amounts of marijuana, more than 50,000 people were arrested in the past year on charges of possession of marijuana. Even though the government’s own figures say the overwhelming majority of marijuana users are white, more than 2/3’s of those arrested for possessing marijuana are Black or Latino!
WE ARE STOPPING ALL THIS -- JOIN US IN DOING THAT! In the days leading into the Oct 22nd National Day of protest to Stop Police Brutality, the Network to Stop Mass Incarceration is calling for Stopping Stop & Frisk. We will target this illegal, unconstitutional policy with non violent civil disobedience.
If you are sick and tired of being harassed and jacked up by the cops, JOIN US. If you have had enough of seeing your brothers and sisters, your cousins, your aunts and uncles and fathers stepped to and disrespected by the cops, JOIN US. If you don’t want to live in a world where people’s humanity is routinely violated because of the color of their skin, JOIN US. And if you are shocked to hear that this kind of thing happens in this so-called homeland of freedom and democracy—it does happen, all the damned time—you need to JOIN US too—you can’t stand aside and let this injustice be done in your name.

Statement From The Stop Mass Incarceration Network:
HANDS OFF NOCHE DÍAZ!
DROP ALL THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM!
Patrol of Harlem. He courageously works to safeguard constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens in neighborhoods where these rights are often abused. Today he faces charges in Manhattan and the Bronx for witnessing police brutalizing citizens. Noche refused to leave these community members to face this brutality alone. For that he faces charges that could send him to prison for several years in his Manhattan trial. Noche is a freedom fighter who has put himself on the line to defend basic human rights in many poorer communities of color throughout New York City. He now needs our help. Please stand up for him, for our communities and yourself; Join us in saying: Stop the legal persecution of Noche and drop all the charges against him.
