    Brutal murder suspect caught in Charlotte

    Fugitive arrested outside Charlotte apartments CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A fugitive on the run from Raleigh, wanted for bludgeoning a man with a baseball bat then stabbing him, was arrested here in Charlotte.

    Detectives say that man is an illegal immigrant who was reportedly about to make a run for it by leaving the country.

    But Charlotte police officers caught up with him at his cousin's house on North Tryon Street after a tip and a stakeout.

    Police say Ricardo Serpas made a call from a payphone on North Tryon Street to someone in Raleigh. Detectives there tracked the call and gave the number to investigators here in Charlotte who tracked Serpas down.

    “In canvassing the area we found an individual who believes they saw him make that phone call and that led us in the right direction of what type of vehicle to look for,â€

    Here's the Raleigh coverage. When all's said and done this will probably turn out to be a gang murder. They should jail his cousin too.

    5th Person Arrested in Weekend Homicide in Raleigh

    Charlotte — Raleigh police have charged Ricardo De Jesus Torres Serpas, 25, with murder in connection with the death of Felipe Montalvo-Montalvo.

    Police found the body of Montalvo-Montalvo, 32, about 10:30 a.m. Sunday along the street in the 4200 block of Bland Street.

    Arturo Compuzano Gonzalez, 19; Miguel Carmona Mayo, 20; Juan Asael Moveda-Aleman, 16; and Hector David Rodriguez, 16, are also charged in connection with Montalvo-Montalvo's death.

    The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team took Serpas into custody without incident in Charlotte on Wednesday.

    Serpas was returned to Raleigh and taken to the Wake County Jail.
