Suspected illegal immigrant charged in break-ins targeting Hispanics

Ayden, N.C. — A suspected illegal immigrant is accused of committing "countless" break-ins and larcenies that targeted the Hispanic community in Pitt County, according to the sheriff's office.

Samuel Rodriguez Santos, 23, of 4321 Blount St. in Ayden, was charged Thursday with 33 counts each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.

He was placed in the Pitt County jail under a $216,000 secured bond. He was also put under a detainer by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Spokeswoman Christy Wallace said the Pitt County Sheriff's Office and Ayden and Grifton police departments are continuing to investigate the break-ins.
