N.J.: Penalties for hiring illegal immigrants
Penalties for hiring illegal immigrants
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 06/2/07
Three state lawmakers from southern Ocean County said they will introduce legislation that would prevent companies who hire illegal immigrants from receiving public contracts, grants, loans and tax incentives for 10 years. The bill also would include a $10,000 penalty for each illegal immigrant hired by a company that violates this proposed law, according to Sen. Leonard T. Connors Jr. and Assemblymen Christopher J. Connors and Brian E. Rumpf.
The law would exempt those companies found to have shown due diligence in trying to verify an immigrant's legal status.
