Thread: N.M. - Border Patrol: Agents foil human smuggling attempt

LORDSBURG, N.M. — Tracking at night is an age-old skill passed along to each new generation of Border Patrol agents, and it’s still paying big dividends. Those skills combined with modern technology led to the detection of illegal activity south of Interstate 10 in Lordsburg, and interrupted a human smuggling effort.

On the evening of Monday, May 2, agents using night-vision technology spotted two people walking in the desert, heading north from the U.S./Mexico International Boundary. Agents were deployed to the area and began the process of tracking the group. In just minutes, agents closed in on the individuals and quickly apprehended the two subjects who claimed to be citizens of Mexico. As agents escorted the two individuals out from the desert brush, one of subjects informed the agents that there were 12 other subjects that were trailing behind them.

After three hours of backtracking footprints through the harsh desert terrain, agents located the other 12 individuals who were also citizens of Mexico. All of the subjects were transported to the Lordsburg Border Patrol Station for further processing.

During routine questioning at the station, one of the subjects claimed to have been assaulted by the two smuggling guides that headed the group. Agents contacted Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to assist with the case. The two alleged guides, both 20-year-olds, Victor Favian Valenzula Miranda and Edgar Adrian Diaz Lopez will face criminal prosecution for alien smuggling. Both of the individuals will be detained pending prosecution.

These incidents demonstrate how vigilance by U.S. Border Patrol Agents and the ability to rapidly respond to remote areas is combating human smuggling and keeping our communities safe.

CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

Send them all back. Maybe they will think twice about coming back and being assaulted in the process again.

We need to start posting pictures of the assaults, the underwear and bras in the trees from being raped, the rugged terrain and get it out there. Do not come here! Do not subject yourself to this human trafficking! Stay home and fight for your rights on your soil.
