An unidentified woman died Sunday afternoon at the hospital after local Border Patrol agents rescued her from the desert near Andrade, Calif., the patrol said. Also Sunday, a Border Patrol agent found the dead body of a woman in the desert in the vicinity of Avenue 11/2E and East County 251/4 Street.

Joe Brigman, Yuma Sector Border Patrol spokesman, said illegal aliens told agents about the distressed woman near Andrade during a routine apprehension about 11:30 a.m.

Border Search Trauma and Rescue agents were then flown out to the location, where they found the woman unconscious, Brigman said. The BORSTAR agents gave her emergency medical attention as a Border Patrol helicopter flew her to the Yuma Regional Medical Center, Brigman added.

The woman died shortly after her arrival at the hospital from apparent heat-related complications, Brigman said.

The woman had no identification on her, and it is unknown if she belonged to the group of aliens that was apprehended, Brigman said. Agents notified the Mexican Consulate of the death.

In the incident involving the discovery of the body, a news release from the Yuma County Sheriff's Office said that deputies were dispatched to the scene to investigate after the agent found the body. They did not find any documents that could identify the dead woman, the release said, but it appeared that she was an illegal immigrant and that the cause of death was exposure to the elements. Sheriff's office investigators will contact the Mexican consultate, the release said.
