3 illegal immigrants held in Brewster robbery

BREWSTER - Three illegal immigrants from Guatemala are being held without bail today at the Putnam County jail after state police charged them in the armed robbery of another man last week.

Carlos R. Soto, 35, Rolando F. Massariego, 38, and Aroldo Martinez, 29, who police said live in Brewster but have no specific address, are charged with first-degree robbery. Authorities say they held up a 21-year-old man on Peaceable Hill Road as he walked home from his job as a dishwasher at a village restaurant, police said.

The victim was held at knifepoint and robbed of his weekly pay while walking home on the night of May 21, police said.

Soto and Massariego are due back in Village Court on June 11, a court clerk said today. Information on Martinez's next court date was not immediately available as the court was waiting for an attorney to be appointed to his case.

Investigator Armando Z. Barquin and Trooper Carlos Carrasco made the arrest late last week after what police described as a diligent investigation.
