(Belmont, NY, October 20, 2007) - - A group of Southern Tier leaders is opposing Governor Spitzer's controversial plan to grant driver's licenses to illegal aliens.

The group gathered Saturday at the Allegany County Courthouse to get their point across.

State Senator Catharine Young says Governor Spitzer is asking county clerks to break the law.

Young said, "On September 11, our hearts were broken. We were hit the hardest. Lost 3,000. It makes no sense to loosen the requirements for driver's licenses."

Friday, Governor Spitzer defended his plan by quoting former White House counterterrorism chief Richard Clarke.

Clarke endorsed the plan, and says driver's licenses are a way of keeping track of would-be terrorists.
