Rensselaer County officials say they will share voter roll information with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

This comes after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the “Green Light Bill” into law, which allows undocumented immigrants to apply for drivers’ licenses.

County leaders said this legislation created a loophole where undocumented immigrants could register to vote right at the DMV when getting licenses.

Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin and County Clerk Frank Merola said they’re working with the Board of Elections to provide the names and addresses of people registered to vote so ICE can review the lists to see if any people are in the country illegally.

They’re both outspoken opponents of the “Green Light Bill” and have pledged to sue over the issue.
