GLENS FALLS -- An illegal immigrant from Mexico who had fled from a deportation order months earlier was arrested Friday for allegedly attacking a woman as she slept in her Glens Falls home one night late last month, officials said.

Fredi R. Torres-Jimenez, 21, of Route 4, Whitehall, was charged with unlawful imprisonment, a misdemeanor, after the March 29-30 incident, police said.

Torres-Jimenez was arrested Friday after an investigation by Glens Falls Police into a woman’s complaint that she was sleeping in a friend’s home and was accosted by a man who tried to pull her pants off, Glens Falls Police Detective Lt. Peter Casertino said.

“He held her down trying to get her shorts off and she fought him off,” Casertino said.

Torres-Jimenez had a friend who was at the apartment, and accompanied that friend to the apartment after a night of drinking at bars in Glens Falls, police said.

The woman who was attacked had not been at the bars but had been at the home with a friend when Torres-Jimenez arrived. She did not know him before that point and did not consent to any physical contact with him, Casertino said.

Those at the home only know him as Fredi Torres, but police were able to locate him through his page on Facebook.

That profile listed his workplace as Champlain Stone in Fort Ann, but when police went there, they found he had worked there last summer but not this year, according to Casertino.

“They told us they think he works at Champlain Beef,” he said.
Police went to the nearby meat processing plant on Route 4 and found that he worked there and lived in a rooming house on the property, but had used the name Jose Aguilar and another person’s Social Security number to get the job there, police said.

Torres-Jimenez was arraigned and sent to Warren County Jail for lack of bail. U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement may file additional charges for use of false documents, and he will face deportation as well.
