Angier Man Convicted In Fatal Crash
An illegal immigrant from Angier who killed a Clayton man and his 9-year-old son last March when he ran a stop sign and hit their vehicle was convicted Friday on two counts of second-degree murder, according to news reports.

Luciano Tellez, 32, who was driving on a suspended license at the time, ran the stop sign on N.C. 210 at Plainview Church Road and ran into the semi driven by Jerry Dwane Braswell, 35.

Both Mr. Braswell and his son, Jerry Jr., were killed when the truck overturned and burst into flames.

Troopers reportedly found beer cans in Mr. Tellez's vehicle. He initially ran from the scene but was arrested the next day at his home.

As a result of his conviction, he was sentenced to 32 to 40 years in prison, after which he will be deported to Mexico.

According to news reports, Mr. Tellez showed no emotion during the trial and even suggested a friend was driving the car on the night of the crash. At the time, he was wanted for violating conditions of his probation from a past DWI conviction.
