North Carolina residents might know soon whether their state has become a “license magnet� for illegal immigrants seeking false citizenship in the United States.

Newly elected state Auditor Les Merritt is looking into the process by which the state Division of Motor Vehicles issues driver’s licenses. The DMV audit should be completed in two or three months, said Dennis Patterson of the auditor’s staff.

The audit, already under way, grew out of a statewide review the auditor’s office did last year of North Carolina’s handling of Homeland Security money from the federal government and the state’s readiness to combat terrorism, Patterson said.

“Anytime they do one of these large performance audits they also are looking for things that they might need to go back and take a closer look at,� he said. “This (driver’s licensing) was one of those areas.� North Carolina has come under fire in recent months because of its relatively lax licensing law, which critics say resulted in thousands of fraudulent licenses issued to illegal immigrants from North Carolina and other states.

My name is Alex and I'm an activist on this issue in NC. I feel that NC's media needs to inform people about this situation and that our lawmakers need to take immediate and real actions to secure our licenses. North Carolinians do not want terrorists or illegal aliens to receive licenses.

If the Illegal Aliens who are given drivers' liscenses in N.C. hurt someone in S.C. wouldn't that party be able to sue the state of N.C.?
