CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A large crowd gathered at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse proclaiming innocence for a man accused of causing a deadly crash.
Uriel Flores is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and felony hit and run. Police said he caused another car to run off the road in south Charlotte killing two people inside, including a three-year-old child.
Thursday, a judge reduced Flores' bond by $100,000. Flores had a large crowd of supporters hoping he can get out of jail about a dozen who sat inside the courtroom and another 20 waiting outside.
Uriel Flores stood before a judge to learn if his bail would be reduced. As his sister pleaded with the judge, he was brought to tears.
"For me it's hard seeing my brother in chains," said Adilene Flores, "It's hard seeing him with handcuffs on. It's hard to see him like this because my brother is not a bad person."
Adilene Flores said her brother Uriel Flores is not responsible for the deaths of Shanquise Bush or 3-year old Jayden Bush. Back on September 18th, police say Uriel Flores was driving a white truck on Sharon Road West during rush hour traffic. Witnesses said it looked like he was racing with a red Mercury Sable and ran into the other driver's lane forcing her to slide off the road hitting a utility pole.
Thursday in court prosecutors said it appeared the two cars were going 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. Flores' lawyer said other circumstances ran the car off the road, not Flores, who's truck never touched the red car. He said Snaquise Bush, who was driving, was licensed for two weeks and the car had bald tires.
"There's no one to blame in this, no one to blame," said Adilene Flores, "It's an accident. And I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for their loss."
Flores' sister spoke to the judge and her brother's bail was reduced from $150,000 to $50,000. Now she is fighting with immigration to lift the hold placed on Flores papers allowing him to be in this country legally.
"I have a petition going on right now to free my brother, for ICE to lift this hold that they have on him," said Flores.
About 25 of Flores' friends dropped off a letter for CMPD Chief Rodney Monroe, asking him to reconsider the case.
"It's devastating. It gets you mad that you know they are just trying to blame someone," said Rafael Abundio.
Tuquory Bush after the bond hearing was visibly upset. He lost his sister and his son in that crash. He said it doesn't matter if Flores supporters said he is a good person, Bush said a good person doesn't run a family off the road and leave the scene.
Flores' lawyer said if the immigration hold is lifted, the family could only need to raise ten percent of his bond to get him out with the help of a bail bondsman.

Family, friends of Charlotte teen in jail petition against immigration hold

CHARLOTTE -- Family and friends of a teen accused of involuntary manslaughter in a deadly hit-and-run gathered at the Mecklenburg County Jail in uptown on Wednesday to ask for his release.
The family of Uriel Flores said he has legal status in the U.S. under the DREAM Act, but Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has put a hold on him. Because of the hold, Flores cannot be released from jail on bond.
CMPD said Flores caused a crash in south Charlotte last month that killed a 19-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy. Flores has been indicted on two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Police believe the two cars may have been racing when Flores forced the victims' car off the road.
Flores' family maintains his innocence, citing the 911 call he made after witnessing the accident and the fact that he willingly turned his car over to police. People at Wednesday's vigil held signs asking for the immigration hold on Flores to be lifted. They also passed around a petition, gathering signatures to send to the director of ICE.

'DREAMER' who caused deadly crash offered 60-day sentence
Dave Gibson Immigration Reform Examiner
December 13, 2013
On Thursday, Uriel Flores, 18, was offered a plea deal by the Mecklenburg County (NC) District Attorney's Office, which would have required the illegal alien to plead guilty to two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle, and serve 60 days in jail.
Flores was arrested on Sept. 18, after reportedly causing a crash on Sharon Road in Charlotte, which left 19-year-old Shanquise Bush and her 3-year-old son, Jayden dead.
Read Jayden's obituary...
The pick up truck driven by Flores crossed into Bush's lane, causing her to swerve. She then crashed her Mercury Sable into a telephone pole, according to witnesses.
Flores quickly fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
Bush was pronounced dead on the scene, while her son died a few days later at the Carolina's Medical Center from massive head trauma.
Two others, including Bush's 18-month-old daughter were injured in the crash.
Flores, who rejected the plea deal, will now be tried on two counts of involuntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of inflicting serious injury, and felony hit-and-run.
If found guilty, he could be sentenced to more than eight years in prison.
However, the Mexican national's sister, says that her brother should not face any charges and simply be let go...
Adilene Flores told WBTV:
There's no one to blame in this, no one to blame. It's an accident. And I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for their loss."
"I have a petition going on right now to free my brother, for ICE to lift this hold that they have on him," the defendant's sister continued.
Flores is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail on an immigration detainer.

One man's terrorist is another man's undocumented worker.
Unless we enforce laws against illegal aliens today,
tomorrow WE may wake up as illegals.
The last word: illegal aliens are ILLEGAL!
