NC: Illegals steal spikes from Railroad tracks!

Men Charged In Theft Of Spikes From NC Train Track

    POSTED: 8:45 am EST March 2, 2010

FLAT ROCK, N.C. -- Two men face deportation after they were arrested in the theft of more than 500 railroad spikes from train tracks still in use in western North Carolina.

Multiple media outlets reported Tuesday the men were charged in connection with the spikes from train tracks near Flat Rock.

Police say they found 37-year-old Cruz Mario Carnacion and 35-year-old Jose Luis Trejo-Yanez with more than 500 7-inch steel spikes, which can be sold for scrap.

Henderson County Sheriff Rick Davis said the missing spikes could have caused a derailment.

The men are charged with conspiracy to damage railroad property, willful injury to railroad property and trespassing on railroad property. They're being held on Immigration and Customs Enforcement orders pending deportation proceedings.

It was unclear if they had attorneys.

Oh goodness! I have a RR track about a mile from my house. Trains rumble along, which is a pleasant sound, but now, since I have no idea what they are carrying, gotta start figuring out what the neighborhood may be exposed to. Yikes.

They also take copper pipes and wiring out of abandoned houses, and aluminum freeway guard rails, all to sell for scrap.

As soon as a house is abandoned in Detroit because of foreclosures, thieves break in and steal anything of value, which includes chopping through the drywall to get wiring. A house that is gutted out this way is considered too far gone for any repairs to bring it back to saleable condition.

Yep and they sell them to unwary buyers in lots of up to 200 homes for as little as 10k.

There's a guy who goes around and films them for people, and he had a home where the side and back walls of the house were caving in, but the front looked fine, and it was on a sale list in a block of homes for sale.

$10,000? There was a story posted here a while back where some lady managed to buy the entire property for $1,000 in Detroit. She will probably raze the house but apparently the lot is worth much more than the house, and the cleaning of the lot.

Last spring, a couple bought a dump for 100 dollars. Some places in the Murder, I mean Motor, I mean used to be Motor City that have sold for 50 bucks.

Less than a week after my Gamma passed away, in 04, they started to strip the nice thick aluminum siding Gramma had put on in 1961. The city sorry to say is filled with people who have for 2 to 3 generations depended on government handouts and they think they deserve it, and if they lose it, this is what they turn to. Aside from the fact there is no work there in the city. Back when I was a little squirt in the mid 60s, there were so many jobs to be had, they would take you off the street and start apprenticing you as long as you had a pulse and were breathing. My dad got a job so fast after getting out of the Navy, that they brought him his job app after he had been punched in for 2 hours and already working. All he had to do was fill in his name, address and phone number. They had everything else done for him.
