    Illegal immigrant sentenced for possessing weapons


    A man who bought military-style rifles at Kansas City area gun shows with the intent of having them shipped to Mexico was sentenced Thursday to federal prison.

    Mynor Guerra, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to four years and nine months in prison.

    Guerra, 25, was arrested last July after federal agents observed him purchasing two AR-15 semi-automatic rifles at a gun show near Kansas City International Airport.

    It is illegal for someone who is in the country illegally to possess a firearm.
