A little more than 13 pounds of cocaine was seized Tuesday afternoon at the Interstate 19 checkpoint, an official said Wednesday.

A 35-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Blazer came to the checkpoint around 2 p.m. and was acting suspiciously, said Mike Scioli, the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector spokes-man.

Authorities found five packages of cocaine hidden in air vents in the dashboard after a drug-sniffing dog alerted them to the presence of narcotics, Scioli said. The driver — a resident of Sonora, Mexico — was taken into custody, Scioli said.
