Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck and State Sen. Kevin de León voiced their support Monday in downtown Los Angeles for de León’s bill that would limit local and state law enforcement assistance with federal immigration action in California.

Senate Bill 54, named the California Values Act, was approved by the state Senate in April and is still moving through the state Assembly.

De León began by thanking Holder, Beck and others for supporting the bill, before decrying the “reckless Trump administration” for its efforts to withhold federal dollars from cities that say they won’t cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

“Under Constitutional threats from a reckless Trump administration, Senate Bill 54 protects our local law enforcement and the resources that they need to keep our communities safe,” de León said at the news conference held in the Ronald Reagan State Building in downtown Los Angeles.

De León noted a recent decision by a federal judge in San Francisco who blocked President Donald Trump’s order to withhold federal funding from so-called “sanctuary cities” that don’t cooperate with federal immigration officials. But, he said, local police still need protection against “federal overreach.”

“Because we stood up to the Trump administration threat with an aggressive defense of our immigrant communities, Attorney General [Jeff] Sessions has had to narrow his definition of a sanctuary city,” de León said. “His plan to punish so-called ‘sanctuary cities’ by withholding federal grant dollars has been rejected by the court of law. Still, our local law enforcement officers are under threat of being commandeered to the president’s deportation forces. Senate Bill 54 will protect local police against federal overreach.”

De León said that since the start of the year, reports of sexual assault and domestic violence have decreased because those who might report such crimes fear deportation if they’re undocumented.
“Under Senate Bill 54, local police officers will maintain the trust of immigrant communities that has been carefully nurtured, the trust that is so important to our safety.”

De León also said his bill requires state corrections officials to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement 60 days before they release anyone with a violent felony conviction.

“Senate Bill 54 is not about safeguarding criminals,” de León said. “It would assure that dangerous criminals serve their full sentence, in California.”

Holder, who state Senate lawmakers have hired as outside counsel, said de León’s bill would ensure undocumented immigrants report crimes.

“California is leading,” Holder said. “California is doing the right thing. This is something that needs to be done nationwide.

“As the former attorney general of these United States, I know from experience immigrants, even when they are victims of crime or witnesses to criminal acts, often fear interacting with local law enforcement officers when those officers also engage in federal immigration enforcement,” Holder added. “That means more crime. It means more victims, and it means not fewer.

“We have concluded that it is constitutional,” Holder said. “Under the United States Constitution, states have the power over the health and safety of their residents and the allocation of state resources.

Despite statements from the Trump administration suggesting that laws similar to the California Values Act are somehow unconstitutional, the act is a core exercise of California’s authority.”

Beck said it’s crucial to ensure that witnesses to crimes aren’t deterred from sharing information with police because they fear deportation.

“We do not want to lose trust, because we believe trust is the most important thing in policing,” Beck said. “The ability to get witnesses to come forward, the ability to get victims to come forward … can be severely detrimented by civil enforcement of immigration by local authorities.

“This is not a soft-on-crime bill,” he added. “We depend on our communities, particularly our immigrant communities, to cooperate with us, not only to keep them safe, but to keep all of you safe.”

Have you ever heard such stupid dribble in your life? Well, yes, lets build trust with all law-breakers and criminals and violators, yes, lets definitely do that so we can build "trust" with the criminal law-breaking community and keep them all safe while they rape, rob, bankrupt and kill Americans!!

Dang!! Why didn't Americans think of that swell idea a long time ago??!!! There's 40 million law-abiding black Americans waiting to build "trust" with community policing, they've been waiting for this for well over 240 years in this country. Isn't it great how we get these "diverse" swell ideas from illegal aliens and their trusted police friends in the United States??!!

Let me tell you, if the US Department of Justice and what's left of the FBI don't start investigating why local police agencies are refusing to enforce US immigration law, refusing to assist federal US immigration authorities and are becoming BFF's with criminal illegal aliens, then they aren't worth the salt it takes to keep them hydrated let alone the money we're wasting on this massive department that frankly few Americans "trust" much any more, and we need a SPECIAL COUNSEL to investigate just why that is the case.

No one in their right mind is buying this bull that these local law enforcement officers are throwing out about building "trust" with criminal illegal aliens, defying not only detainers and normal police behavior, but common sense to boot.

I'll tell you what this "trust" is they're building, it's the "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the greenbacks they're stuffing into their pockets from the drug cartels by providing protection to the illegal aliens running their drugs, operations and networks.

Someone should tell the L.A. police chief that immigrants could really care less about whether the city they live in is a sanctuary city or not, because it won't affect them one bit. And let us ask him this. Let's also ask him how it's possible for immigrants who came here legally will be affected by this. Let's force him to use the word "illegal" alien. I am very interested to see how a person in law enforcement is able to defend people who he himself has to address as illegal.

Lots of laughs! Kevin de Leon admitted half HIS family is illegal and using fake documents!

Investigate HIS family tree...round them up and deport them.
ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL
