Nearly 900,000 Illegals with Removal Orders Still in U.S.--167,000 Are Convicted Criminals

Nearly 900,000 illegal aliens who have received a final order of removal are still in the United States - and about 167,000 of these are convicted criminals who were released by ICE and are currently at large, a new analysis of government data by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) shows.

According to the CIS's review,of a leaked Dept. of Homeland Security(DHS) document, 883,000 total illegal aliens are legally required to leave the U.S, but are still here:

"As of the end of the 2014 fiscal year, there were approximately 167,000 convicted criminal aliens at large in the United States (released by ICE) who have been ordered removed and exhausted all appeals. In addition, there were approximately 716,000 deportable non-criminal aliens at large who have been ordered removed and exhausted all appeals."

According to U.S. Immigrations and Customs (ICE) officials who spoke off the record, ICE officers are instructed to release or take a pass on illegal aliens whose crimes are designated as "minor" or who have family members in the United States. The result, the report says, is "that only a fraction of deportable aliens that ICE identifies actually will be processed for deportation."

And, only about half (53%) of criminal illegal aliens encountered by ICE agents were actually deported, the report finds:

"It is important to note that, similarly, only a fraction of those aliens labeled as a criminal threat at the time of encounter were selected for deportation by ICE in 2014. According to the weekly ICE metrics report cited above, as of September 20, 2014, ICE officers had reported 170,125 encounters with aliens deemed a criminal threat. Meanwhile, only 90,500 criminal aliens were issued charging documents, indicating a startlingly large number - potentially nearly 80,000 - of illegal aliens with criminal histories who were able to escape deportation proceedings in 2014, even after being encountered by an ICE officer."

The report also finds that less than two percent of aliens who have been given a final order of removal, but have yet to leave the country, are in ICE custody:

"ICE's weekly metrics report includes information on the number of aliens who have been issued a final order of removal, but who remain in the country. As of September 20, 2014, the total number of such aliens was 897,572. Of these, less than 2 percent (14,629) were detained in ICE custody. Yet 174,258 of these post-final-order deportable aliens were convicted criminals. Only about 4 percent (7,477) of the convicted criminal post-final-order aliens were detained in ICE custody."

I believe ICE as currently structured has outlived its destiny and should be defunded and deauthorized. States should pass state immigration laws and then States. Cities and Counties should be the ones to arrest and deport illegal aliens and be paid with federal dollars for all or at least a portion of the cost of the service. According to Wiki, as of 2008, there are over 1.1 million people working for state and local law enforcement on a full time basis, including 765,000 sworn officers, plus another 100,000 part-time employees including 44,000 additional sworn officers, and of course there are many more than that today. ICE on the other hand has only less than 20,000 total personnel and most of this is paper pushing handing out work permits and visas and dealing with ports of entry for and customs operations.

Tom Ridge when he was Secretary of Homeland Security, the Department that houses ICE, said of illegal aliens, "we don't know who they are, where they are or what they're doing". And that was a true statement then, and it's obviously even more true today. So when your agency or in this case entire Department has no clue who, where or what about the illegal aliens, there's no way you can identify them, find them or know what to do with them when you do because you don't know anything about them. Whereas, state and local law enforcement not only knows who they are, where they are and what they're doing, they have the manpower and officers readily available to process them and deport them, the same as they do for any person breaking the law in the United States.

Now is the perfect time to take this action both on the state and local level as well as pass an existing bill that acknowledges the rights of states and local law enforcement to enforce US immigration law, a bill that was introduced several years ago by Republican Blackburn of Tennessee. Now is also the time to prohibit automatic birthright citizenship to children of illegal aliens and pass a bill also introduced by Republicans several years ago that deny automatic birthright citizenship to children not born to citizens or permanent legal residents. These children have automatic birthright citizenship in the country of their parents, so citizenship here is not required for them to be citizens of a country, they are born with it in the land of their parents. Furthermore, states and counties should be able to enforce not only laws against being here illegally but hiring, aiding and abetting, and so forth. These crimes have far more dire impact on our people and nation than most of the other laws this massive police force is focused on and I believe everyone will be surprised or at at least many will be surprised at how many of those other laws are being violated by illegal aliens so handling arrests and deportations in this manner will in millions of cases per year be 1 stone, 2 birds and will not only reduce if not grind to a virtual halt illegal immigration, it will dramatically reduce crime in general.

Please wake up and start pushing common sense use of our vast resources that taxpayers from sea to shining sea have funded but are not yet securing the benefits we've paid for.

Do the math. 12 million illegal aliens. 800,000 sworn state and local police officers. That's on average 15 illegal aliens per officer. They can solve this problem in 90 days with existing personnel and resources.

Just do it.
